Horse About

Starting Gate Racing has developed from ourselves David and Helen at Withyslade Farm sharing our racehorse Look Surprised with other likeminded enthusiasts.

Look Surprised, admirably trained by Roger Teal near Lambourn was looking at a second career in the paddocks having shown a good level of form on the racetrack, however motherhood was put on hold after the decision was made to carry on racing her with a few other owners that showed an interest in becoming involved. A syndicate was formed and now a regular group of racing lovers share the cost of ownership and in turn have had a lot of fun. Look Surprised was split into lease shares with the syndicate members paying a one off monthly fee, all inclusive of expenses. The mare has exceeded all expectations this year by winning twice and placing on a further four occasions. Due to this success we have decided to introduce more of our horses into the syndicate, with an even spread between flat and national hunt racing.

All horses are available in 5% lease shares with no initial buy in cost, just a monthly payment starting at the beginning of the agreement. Keeping shares at 5% maximise each syndicate to a possible twenty members, though an individual leasee may take up to 40% in shares in any one horse.

Monthly payments include all training fees, vet and farrier costs. All transport and raceday expenses are included. Not included are pattern race entries and foreign travel. If your horse is likely to get pattern race entries or travel abroad then it is highly likely that it has been successful enough in the UK to pay for itself in this respect.

Any prize money won will be shared out annually pro-rata.
Anyone wishing to leave the syndicate will offer three months notice.

Each 5% share will guarantee you one owners and trainers badge on racedays. Visits to the stud farm and trainers are by arrangement.

Each horse is leased from Withyslade Farm & Stud to the syndicate and will stay in training with their respective trainer until he or she decides that the horse is either no longer competitive enough to run or hopefully cannot possibly achieve any more! Our trainers make their own decisions on the horses with the input from syndicate members welcome. Trainers decision is always final.
